This Week’s Porn Club Discussion kicked off with a lively round of Porn Games from Girl With Fire, aimed at testing members googling skills of all thing porn related. A question was asked, and the member who answered the fastest got a free $5 gift card from Edenfantasys. Aside from passing the time until the legendary porn actress Julia Ann showed up to discuss her life in adult film industry, the games also proved to be very educational.
Here are some of the things that we all learned.
The English are cumming
The first porn law was passed in the United Kingdom in 1857, making the sale of obscene material a statutory offence everywhere in the UK but Scotland (where the men still refused to wear anything under their kilts). The law was passed with the urging of the Society for the Suppression of Vice, which was most likely formed by a cadre of closet perverts who had copies of “The Pearl” ( a scandalous Victorian Era Anthology) hidden in their Loo (the British word for Crapper).
Out Vile Jelly
Two of the earliest pioneers of porn were the producer Eugene Pirou and Director Albert Kirchner. Kirchner directed a short film called “Le Coucher de la Marie” for Pirou, which featured Louise Willy (the first porn starlet) performing an onscreen striptease. There is no word if this film earned Willy the 1897 AVN best new Starlet Award, but I am assuming that she did. Another odd fact, is that Kirchner directed these “Blue Movies” under the name of Lear. Perhaps this is a reference to the idea of masturbation causing blindness (Google King Lear to figure this one out).
Boobs is Three Dimensions
Moving forward a century, the very first porn that was shot in 3D was the Hong Kong feature: “3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy”. Due to the popularity of 3D movies like “Avatar” and “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, it makes sense that the porn industry would also want to cash in on the latest 3D craze. Cum shots are never going to be the same again because of this new technology. Let us just hope that the new technology does not replace the good story telling and dialogue that porn films are known for.
Somewhere Pee Wee is laughing
California is the place you needed to be in, if you wanted to visit this country’s very first adult theaters. The Golden State started showing 35mm Sexploitation films before any other state. This little factoid then kicked off a discussion about the demise of the adult theater, where people could go and do naughty things in the company of other perverts in trench coats. Thankfully, it was also mentioned that you can now get these sexploitation movies on Netflix, although watching them in the privacy of your own home is just not the same for some people.
Awards
The First AVN awards were held in 1984, although some Googler found a reference to it being held in 1983, which should be a lesson in internet disinformation. Whatever year it was, very few people even paid attention since they were all still too busy talking about that Macintosh Super Bowl Commercial. Cecil Howard’s “Scoundrels” (Command Video) won the award for Best Film, and the Best Actress was Dr. Sharon Mitchell (who has a PhD in sexuality). Today of course, the AVN Awards Ceremony, at Mandalay Bay Casino, is a premier annual event that features big name celebrities and is even broadcast live via Showtime. Also, it was found out that the annual award event for gay adult videos is known as a “GayVN awards”.
Doe of the Month?
Hugh Hefner was originally going to name his now legendary men’s magazine “Stag Party”, but found he had to find a new name after the outdoor magazine “Stag” threatened to sue to protect its trademark. Then Hefner’s VP, Eldon Sellers, suggested the name “Playboy”, after the short lived, Chicago based, Playboy Automobile Company that his mother worked for. No word on where the bunny idea came from, but can you imagine if Stag Party stuck? Would the centerfolds be called Stag Party Does instead?
While that was it for the games part of the discussion, where the winners all got a five dollar gift certificate, and got the chance to win the big grand prize after the after party. Tune in tomorrow to get the recap on the two movies that were discussed, as well as what the Milfalicious Julia Ann had to say about her life in the Adult Film Industry.
